The sintering process is usually divided into stages based on geometrical changes that occur during the microstructural evolution from an assembly of individual particles to a dense, polycrystalline structure. The microstructural evolution during the sintering process has generally been divided into three stages.
The sintering process is governed by the following parameters: • temperature and time, • geometrical structure of the powder particles, • composition of the powder mix, • density of the powder compact, • composition of the protective atmosphere in the sintering furnace.
